Ethyl 1-methylpiperidine-2-carboxylate is a picolinic acid derivative that is used as a synthetic intermediate in the production of picolinic acid. The reaction system consists of a homologous series of ethyl esters, five-membered cyclic carboxylic acids, and picolinic acid. This chemical reacts with deuteride to form a transition metal complex, which then undergoes an intramolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction to produce ethyl 1-methylpiperidine-2-carboxylate. Kinetic studies have shown that the kinetic parameters for this reaction are dependent on the concentration of picolinic acid and deuteride.
