Ethyl 4-methyloxazole-5-carboxylate is a chemical reagent that functions as an electron donor, an oxidative agent and a dehydrogenative agent. It has been used for the synthesis of organic compounds using catalytic reactions, such as cross-coupling with alkyl halides, oxidation of aromatic rings, and reductive amination. Ethyl 4-methyloxazole-5-carboxylate is also used in the preparation of theophylline, chloroformates and bronchodilators. It can be obtained by reacting ethyl chloroformate with azide or pyrrole in the presence of chloride or metal salts. The mixture is heated to remove water and isolate ethyl 4-methyloxazole-5-carboxylate.
