Description

Ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-4-oxo-7-(piperazin-1-yl)-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylate is a novel antibacterial agent that inhibits the DNA gyrase enzyme. This is the enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. The molecular modeling study showed that this drug binds to the ATP binding site of gyrase and inhibits its activity. It also has carboxylic acid groups that are important for interactions with other molecules. The inhibitory concentration values for ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-4-oxo-7-(piperazin-1-yl)-1,4 -dihydroquinoline 3 carboxylate are 0.5 micrograms/ml against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and 0.2 micrograms/ml against Mycobacterium avium complex.
