Ethyl 5-aminopentanoate hydrochloride is a chemical compound with the formula CH(CH)COH. It is an organic compound that is formed by the condensation of two molecules of ethyl formate. This substance can be used in the synthesis of marine alkaloids, such as deprotonation and salt formation. The reaction of ethyl 5-aminopentanoate hydrochloride with tosyl chloride gives β-unsaturated aldehydes and amines. Wittig reactions with aldehydes give guanidine derivatives, whereas reactions with α,β-unsaturated ketones yield midpacamide derivatives.
