Ethyl (1-hydroxycyclohexyl)acetate is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water. It has an odor like that of benzene, and its chemical formula is C6H11O3. The melting point of this compound is -23 °C, with a boiling point of 83 °C. Ethyl (1-hydroxycyclohexyl)acetate can be produced by dry distillation of benzene or by the reaction between butyrate and aluminium in the presence of dry benzene as a catalyst. Its molecular weight is 122.14 g/mol and its elemental analysis reveals that it contains hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, and tantalum on the periodic table. This compound can be used as a reagent to produce ethyl acetate by reacting with butyrate. It also serves as a precursor for other organic compounds such as propionate via alcoholysis or oxidation reactions.
