Ethyl5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylate (EMICA) is a cytosolic calcium ionophore that has been shown to have apoptotic and antiplatelet activities. EMICA binds to the mitochondrial membrane, inducing mitochondrial membrane depolarization, which leads to the release of cytochrome c and activation of caspases. This drug can be used as a marker for platelet activation in hematological strategies.
