Ethyl 4-amino-2-hydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate (EAHPC) is an enzyme hydrolysis product that is metabolically converted to ethyl pyrimidine carboxylate (EPC). EAHPC is a germ cell mutagen and may be a carcinogen. It has been shown to cause chromosome damage in spermatocytes and the subsequent production of germ cells with chromosomal aberrations. EAHPC has low activity as a mutagen, but it can have a maximal effect on the induction of mutations. The mechanism by which EAHPC causes these effects is not well understood.
