Product Information

Name:
Ethylgermaniumtrichloride
Synonyms:
  • Trichloroethylgermane
  • Ethyltrichlorogermane
Description:

Ethylgermaniumtrichloride is a polymerization catalyst that is used for the production of polyethylene. The polymerization process occurs by the addition of ethylgermaniumtrichloride to a liquid monomer, such as ethylene, in the presence of an organometallic compound. Ethylgermaniumtrichloride is also used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other organic compounds. The viscosity of ethylgermaniumtrichloride can be measured using a viscometer. Ethylgermaniumtrichloride is insoluble in water and will not dissolve in most organic solvents. It has an average particle diameter of 10-15 microns and contains molecules containing both organic acids and chloride ions. Ethylgermaniumtrichloride can also form a solid catalyst by adding sodium salts to it, which increases its formation rate.
