Product Information
- Ethyl 3-(Furan-3-Yl)-3-Oxopropanoate
Ethyl 3-oxo-3-(furan-3-yl)propanoate is a chlorinated compound. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of milbemycin, a potent inhibitor of phospholipase A2 and has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Salmonella enterica. This compound also reacts with singlet oxygen to form ethoxy radicals that react with nucleophiles such as amines, hydroxyl groups, and thiols. The formation of these reactive species leads to the production of chlorides, furans, and other compounds that can be used for the synthesis of drugs or other organic molecules. Ethyl 3-oxo-3-(furan-3-yl)propanoate is also used in Wittig reactions to make butenolides or cyclohexanones by reacting with benzyloxymethyl chloride or singlet oxygen respectively.
