Name:
2-Ethoxythiazole
Synonyms:
  • 2-Ethoxy thiazole
  • 2-Ethoxy-1,3-Thiazole
  • Thiazole, 2-ethoxy-
Description:

2-Ethoxythiazole is a white crystalline compound with a molecular weight of 164.2. It is a disulfide that has been shown to be an inhibitor of cGMP-dependent protein kinase. 2-Ethoxythiazole has also been shown to be an active metabolite of the oxidation products of 2,4-diamidino-5-thiourea and 2,6-diaminopurine. This compound is not known to occur naturally, but can be synthesized by reacting thiourea with ethoxyethane in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The compound reacts with nucleophiles (e.g., amino acids) and forms reaction products with high concentrations (>10 mM). The molecule is soluble in water and animal tissue, but not in chromatographic solvents such as chloroform or ether. The presence of this molecule has been demonstrated using laser ablation at room temperature.
