Ethyl-4-pentenoate is an ester that is synthesized from two molecules of diethyl succinate and one molecule of an aryl halide. It is used as a starting material for the synthesis of ethyl esters, ketoesters, and hydroxylated fatty acids. Ethyl-4-pentenoate has been shown to have antagonistic activities against fatty acids by inhibiting lipid synthesis.
