Product Information
- Ethyl 3-Oxo-3-(Thiophen-2-Yl)Propanoate
- 3-Oxo-3-Thiophen-2-Yl-Propionic Acid Ethyl Ester
Ethyl 3-oxo-3-(thiophen-2-yl)propanoate is a reactive, enantiopure, oxadiazole that is used as a synthon for the synthesis of stereoselective products. It has been shown to react with an acceptor molecule in the synthesis of a gene product. Oxidation of this compound with hydrogen peroxide leads to the formation of a bioreductive molecule that can be taken up by cells via an uptake system. This molecule is converted into serotonin and expressed in cells, where it can activate receptors and induce changes in gene expression. Ethyl 3-oxo-3-(thiophen-2-yl)propanoate has also been shown to inhibit the uptake of serotonin by cells, leading to increased levels of serotonin that may contribute to its observed antidepressant effects.
