Ethyl 4-benzylmorpholine-2-carboxylate (EBC) is a racemic mixture that is used as an analog for reboxetine, which is a drug that has been approved by the FDA. EBC has been shown to be more potent than reboxetine in inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine and has been found to be stereoselectively active in inhibiting serotonin reuptake. The enantioselective synthesis of EBC was achieved using a chiral auxiliary.
