Description:
(E)-Ethyl 2-cyano-3-ethoxyacrylate is a quinoline derivative that has been shown to inhibit the growth of mouse tumors. It inhibits the synthesis of epidermal growth factor and other growth factors, which may be due to its ability to react with nucleophilic groups in proteins. This reaction mechanism is similar to that seen in antimicrobial agents such as penicillin, which is known for its ability to bind to the thiol group of enzymes and inhibit their function. (E)-Ethyl 2-cyano-3-ethoxyacrylate also reacts with carboxylic acid groups and can form carbon disulfide and diazonium salt in vivo. The reaction between these two functional groups leads to an increase in cytotoxicity.
