Erythrosin isothiocyanate (EITC) is a fluorescent dye that belongs to the class of lysine-reactive dyes. EITC reacts with lysine residues in proteins. It is used to measure the amount of epidermal growth factor in biological samples, and its fluorescent signal can be visualized using a microscope or spectrophotometer. The binding of EITC to the protein results in a decrease in fluorescence intensity, which can be detected by measuring changes in the emission wavelength of light at 590 nm. EITC also inhibits tyrosine kinase activity, thus preventing calcium ion influx into cells. In cardiac muscle cells, this inhibition leads to decreased intracellular calcium levels and decreased phosphorylation reactions that are involved in cell contraction and relaxation.
