Description:

Ethyl 2-pentynoate is a switchable diastereomer that can be converted to the other isomers by heating in dimethylformamide. It has been shown to have antibacterial properties against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. The mechanism of action of ethyl 2-pentynoate is not yet known, but it may involve the formation of covalent bonds with an enzyme or protein. This compound has also been shown to inhibit growth in yeast cells.
