Eldecalcitol is a vitamin D analogue that has been shown to promote the growth of osteoblasts. It also has potent inducers of biological samples, such as bone cancer and osteoporosis. Eldecalcitol has been shown to be effective against chronic oral bone lesions, such as primary sclerosing osteomyelitis and periodontitis, and can be used for the treatment of bone cancer. Eldecalcitol is not active against acute or healing lesions. Eldecalcitol binds to vitamin D receptors in cells and stimulates the synthesis of proteins that are responsible for mineralization. This drug is not active against any type of cancer cell lines other than those from human osteosarcoma cells (HOS).
