1-Ethyl-3-methyl-3-phospholene 1-oxide is an enantiomer that can be used in the synthesis of optically pure styrene derivatives. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, one of which is enantiopure and the other is a stereoisomer. The catalytic activity of 1-ethyl-3-methyl-3-phospholene 1-oxide depends on the type and amount of phosphine ligands and also on the regioselectivity of the hydroformylation reaction. This compound has been shown to have good catalytic activity when phosphine ligands are present.
