Description

9-Ethyl-6,9-dihydro-4,6-dioxo-10-propyl-4H-pyrano[3,2-g]quinoline-2,8-dicarboxylic acid (EDQ) is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent that is used to treat asthma and other inflammatory diseases. It has been shown in the model system to inhibit the activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes and cytosolic protein kinase C. EDQ has also been found to have an antiinflammatory effect by inhibiting eosinophil cationic protein release and neutrophil migration through inhibition of the production of cytokines such as IL1β and TNFα. The mechanism for this inhibition may be due to EDQ's ability to inhibit activation of nuclear factor kappa B.
