Product Information

Name:
Ethyl-4-cyanoacetoacetate
Description:

Ethyl-4-cyanoacetoacetate is the ethyl ester of 4-cyanoacetic acid. It is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor. Ethyl-4-cyanoacetoacetate has been used in organic synthesis as an activating group for proton abstraction reactions and as an intermediate in the preparation of γ-amino butyric acid (GABA). It can be used to produce a variety of drugs, including high cholesterol drugs and antihistamines. The activation energy for the reaction between ethyl-4-cyanoacetoacetate and malonate is -14.3 kJ/mol. This chemical reacts with alkali metals such as potassium to produce the corresponding potassium salt, which can be isolated by evaporating off water from the solution.
