2-Ethynyl-1,3-thiazole is a chemical compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It inhibits the activity of an efflux pump in bacteria, thereby increasing the availability of drugs that would otherwise be pumped out of the cell. 2-Ethynyl-1,3-thiazole also has a number of other biological effects, including inhibition of cancer cells, activation of neutrophils and macrophages, and regulation of inflammatory responses. The mechanism by which 2-Ethynyl-1,3-thiazole enhances glutamatergic neurotransmission is not well understood but may involve interactions with glutamate receptors or serine proteases.
