Description

2-Ethylbutyric acid is a fatty acid that is a metabolite of the omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid, arachidonic acid. It has been shown to reduce the activity of inflammatory bowel disease and may have anti-inflammatory properties. 2-Ethylbutyric acid also has physiological effects on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain and energy metabolism. This compound can be used as an index for measuring changes in bowel disease activity. 2-Ethylbutyric acid has been shown to have polymerase chain reaction (PCR) activity, which makes it useful for studying DNA synthesis.
