Erbium triiodide is an inorganic compound that contains erbium, neodymium, and dysprosium. It is a ternary rare earth element that has a chemical formula of ErI3. The ionic radius for Er3+ is 0.814 Å and the ionic radius for I- is 0.906 Å. The melting point of Er3+ is 884°C and the melting point of I- is 762°C. It decomposes at 977°C and has a boiling point of 2,542°C. The density of Er3+ is 9.78 g/cm³ and the density of I- is 5.66 g/cm³. This material can be formed as an ionic or molecular solid with dimeric or monomer structures depending on pressure and temperature conditions
