(-)-Eseroline sulfate is also shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the production of nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, and proinflammatory cytokines. The drug is a competitive inhibitor of eseroline, which has been shown to inhibit cardiac topoisomerase I and II activity in rat cardiomyocytes.
