Product Information

Name:
1-Ethynylnaphthalene
Synonyms:
  • 1-Naphthylacetylene
  • α-Naphthylacetylene
  • α-Ethynylnaphthalene
  • Naphthalene, 1-ethynyl-
Description:

1-Ethynylnaphthalene is a molecule that reacts with light to produce a constant light emission. It is a reaction product of 1-phenylnaphthalene and ethynylmagnesium bromide. The cyclohexane ring in 1-ethynylnaphthalene has been shown to form stable dna duplexes and polymerization initiators when it binds to the substrate binding site. In vivo assays have shown that 1-ethynylnaphthalene inhibits the growth of cells by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins. The liquid crystal composition of 1-ethynylnaphthalene allows for this molecule to be used as a diode, which is expressed in living cells.
