Ethynylcyclohexane is a cyclic ether that belongs to the group of diphenyl ethers. It has a chemical formula of C10H14 and a molecular weight of 176.26 g/mol. This molecule is classified as an aliphatic hydrocarbon with a high molecular weight, which makes it thermally stable. The hydroxyl group in this compound can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules and is able to be oxidized to form an alcohol. Ethynylcyclohexane has been shown to bind to adenosine receptor subtypes A2A, A1, and A3, but not A1B or A2B. It has also been shown that its reaction mechanism is similar to that of cyclopentanol and cyclohexanol, which involves electron transfer from the oxygen atom on the hydroxyl group in the ring to one of the carbons in the ring. The activation energy for this reaction is 25 kJ/mol
