- (3S,5R,6E)-7-[4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-6-(1-methylethyl)-2-[methyl(methylsulfonyl)amino]-5-pyrimidinyl]-3,5-dihydroxy-6-heptenoic Acid ter t-Butyl Ester
Ent-rosuvastatin tert-butyl ester is a synthetic statin that is used to lower cholesterol levels. It has the same mechanism of action as other statins, inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that is required for the production of cholesterol in the liver. The compound was synthesized by reacting iodomethane with 2-[2-(2-chloroethoxy)ethoxy]tetrahydrofuran in a liquid chromatograph. Ent-rosuvastatin tert-butyl ester is soluble in tetrahydrofuran and other organic solvents. It also shows optical activity, which can be determined by performing a test solution on an optical bench. Ent-rosuvastatin tert-butyl ester hydrolyzes amines, such as bromocresol purple, but not alkali metal ions or high concentrations of NaOH.
