Epinephrine sulfate is a hormone that belongs to the group of catecholamines. It is used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. Epinephrine sulfate also plays a role in regulating blood pressure by increasing heart rate and contractility. Epinephrine sulfate binds to dopamine β-hydroxylase and inhibits the production of fatty acid metabolites such as dihydroxyphenylacetic acid and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid. These metabolites are involved in the inflammatory response and have been shown to be increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Epinephrine sulfate penetrates into the bowel wall microenvironment, which may help explain its effectiveness for this condition.
