5a-Estrane-3b,17b-diol is a steroidal compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It binds to the cytochrome P450 enzyme, which is involved in the metabolism of many drugs and toxins. This binding makes it difficult for 5a-Estrane-3b,17b-diol to be metabolized by the liver's cytochrome P450 enzyme, making it a potential drug for cancer treatment as well as an agent for preventing carcinogenesis. 5a-Estrane-3b,17b-diol has also been shown to inhibit production of bile acids and increase levels of cholesterol in the liver.
