Description

Estrone sulfate is a pro-apoptotic protein that is derived from estrogen. It has been shown to be chemoattractant for leukocytes and neutrophils, and is involved in the development of diabetic neuropathy. Estrone sulfate is structurally similar to estradiol, with the exception of an additional hydroxyl group on carbon 3. This additional hydroxyl group leads to higher chemical stability, as well as conjugated estrone sulfate (3-sulfate). Estrone sulfate can be synthesized by reacting sodium citrate with estrone at low pH and high temperature, yielding a white solid that has a molecular weight of 269.37 g/mol. Estrogen levels are regulated by binding to a specific receptor in the body’s cells. This receptor interacts with the hormone-receptor complex to form a heterodimer that binds to specific DNA sequences (estrogen response element) and activates transcription. The
