Eterobarbital is a barbiturate drug that is used to treat epilepsy. It is an analog of pentobarbital, which is a short-acting barbiturate. Eterobarbital binds to the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor and increases the inhibitory effects of this neurotransmitter. This drug has been shown to have clinical pharmacology and pharmacodynamics that are similar to those of pentobarbital and phenobarbital. The medication can be taken orally or intravenously, depending on the patient's condition. Eterobarbital also has side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, confusion, slurred speech and impaired memory.
