8-Ethoxycarbonyloctanol is a hydroxylated derivative of octanol that is bound to streptococcus faecalis. It has been shown to inhibit the binding of dibutyltin oxide to DNA and thereby prevents the formation of covalent bonds between dibutyltin oxide and DNA. 8-Ethoxycarbonyloctanol has also been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties in rats, as it is metabolized by the liver into paliperidone, which is an antipsychotic drug. 8-Ethoxycarbonyloctanol binds with fatty acids in red blood cells and can be used as a marker for cancer cells. This compound has also been shown to have electrochemical properties, which may be due to its ability to bind with erythromycin.
