Description:

Ethoxymethylene malononitrile is a benzimidazole compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. It inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. In addition, this compound has been shown to be an effective agent against fungi and viruses. Ethoxymethylene malononitrile is a bicyclic heterocycle with a pyrazole ring. The reaction mechanism for this compound class involves the substitution of hydrogen atoms on the benzimidazole ring by diazonium salt, which leads to the formation of a carbon-sulphur bond and release of nitrogen gas. This reaction also produces two molecules of hydrochloric acid. The fatty acid chain in ethoxymethylene malononitrile is an amine group attached to an unsaturated carbon atom in the pyrazole ring.
