Ethyl 1-piperidinecarboxylate (EPC) is a piperidine derivative that has been shown to have mosquito repellent properties. EPC is synthesized by the reaction of acetyl chloride and piperidine in the presence of a Grignard reagent. It has two isomers, one with nitrogen atoms on both ends and the other with nitrogen atoms only on one end. The uptake of EPC was found to be linear up to 5 mg/kg in rats and its half-life was 4 hours. This compound also showed no significant pharmacokinetic interactions with acetylcholine or cinnamic acid when administered orally.
