Description

(R,S)-N-Ethyl nornicotine is an agonist for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and has been shown to have analgesic properties. It has been shown to be effective in alleviating pain and can be used as a medicinal drug. The affinity of (R,S)-N-Ethyl nornicotine for the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor is greater than that of nicotine and it antagonizes the effects of nicotine in the body. This compound also binds to imidazoline receptors, which may explain its ability to inhibit inflammation. (R,S)-N-Ethyl nornicotine is not active when given intrathecally or intravenously.
