This reaction produces methanol, water, and 2-methylpiperidine as products. The 4-ethylpyridine 1-oxide can be further oxidized to 4-ethylpyridinium 1,4-dioxides by reaction with piperidine in the presence of Raney nickel catalyst at room temperature.
