Description:
Ethynyl estradiol 3-sulfate is a synthetic estrogen that is used as a contraceptive. It is the major active metabolite of ethinyl estradiol and has been shown to have similar properties to those of ethinyl estradiol, including the ability to bind to estrogen receptors. The elimination rate of ethynyl estradiol 3-sulfate is slower than that of ethinyl estradiol, which may be due to its lower solubility in water. Ethynyl estradiol 3-sulfate binds with high affinity to albumin and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and has been found in the urine at concentrations up to 10 times higher than those found in plasma.
