Elymoclavine is a chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of 5-HT2A receptors, which are involved in the transmission of nerve impulses. It also inhibits ergovaline and pergolide mesylate, two amines that are found in perennial ryegrass and have been shown to be toxic to humans. Elymoclavine is a synthetic pathway intermediate and belongs to the class of phytochemicals. It has been shown to have insecticidal activity against insects such as Drosophila melanogaster and Spodoptera littoralis. Elymoclavine has also been shown to have dopamine-like effects on human erythrocytes.
