Description:

Enniatins are cyclic peptides that have been extracted from the fungus Cunninghamella elegans. They have been shown to exhibit significant cytotoxicity against colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines in vitro, and also have antiviral properties. Enniatins are structurally similar to the peptide colistin and are also able to inhibit RNA polymerase activity. This method is a new way of analyzing these compounds. These enniatins may be used as a treatment for acute toxicities, such as sepsis, because they can suppress mitochondrial membrane potential in cells and inhibit the synthesis of ATP.
