Description

4-Ethyloctanoic acid is an unsaturated fatty acid with a carboxylic acid moiety. It has been shown to have a high bioactivity in the assay of total lipids, and can be used to differentiate between adipose tissue and other tissues in lipid analysis. The fatty acid profile of 4-ethyloctanoic acid is similar to that of oleic acid, but it is not as easily saponified. 4-Ethyloctanoic acid has been shown to be synthesized from ethyl alcohol and acetic anhydride through the esterification process. This synthetic compound is found in a variety of food products, such as cheese, chocolate, coffee, and tea.
