2-Ethoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid is a hydrophobic, polar and aromatic compound with two functional groups. This compound is an HIV integrase inhibitor that can be used as a fungicide or pesticide. 2-Ethoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid has been shown to inhibit the enzyme integrase in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) by binding to the active site of the enzyme. It is also able to bind to formamide, which is a common solvent used in DNA sequencing reactions. The photophysical properties of this compound are due to its boronic acid group and fluorescence emission at 515 nm upon excitation at 355 nm.
