Ethyl 4-bromobenzoylformate is a chemical compound that is used in the production of optical thin films. It is a liquid at room temperature and it has an amber color. The compound was also used as a chemical oxidant in the aerobic oxidation of piperidine to piperine. Ethyl 4-bromobenzoylformate can be used as a catalyst for the photo-catalytic reduction of copper ions to copper metal. The compound has been shown to be useful in biomolecular research, due to its ability to catalyze reactions with substrates containing nitrogen or oxygen atoms.
