N-Ethyl-2-acetylpyrrole is a volatile, lipophilic compound that is used as an additive in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride. It is also used as a solvent for phosphorus oxychloride and may have potential applications in the synthesis of quinoline derivatives. N-Ethyl-2-acetylpyrrole has been evaluated for use in a variety of applications, including its toxicity to plants and animals, its effect on soil and water quality, and its potential to cause cancer. This chemical has been shown to be toxic to leaves when applied at high concentrations, but not at low concentrations. It is also toxic to rats when ingested at high doses but not at low doses. N-Ethyl-2-acetylpyrrole can be metabolized by bacteria into butyric acid and sulfide.
