Product Information

Name:
2-Ethoxybenzene-1-carbothioamide
Synonyms:
  • Benzenecarbothioamide, 2-Ethoxy-
  • 2-Ethoxybenzenecarbothioamide
Description:

2-Ethoxybenzene-1-carbothioamide is a chlorinating agent with high efficiency. It is mainly used as an oxidizing agent to convert alcohols, phenols, and thiols into the corresponding chlorides, sulfides, and sulfones. 2-Ethoxybenzene-1-carbothioamide reacts with pyridyl, methoxy, and thienyl groups to produce the corresponding pyridine-, methoxy-, and thiophene-2-carboxylic acids. This process also yields dimers of 2-ethoxybenzene carboxylic acid. The reaction is efficient in the presence of trifluoromethane sulfonic acid or trifluoromethane sulfonyl chloride at pH 3.5 or higher.
