Ethylmethylsulfone can be produced by reacting magnesium with methyl ethylsulfonyl chloride in the presence of an acid or base. Ethylmethylsulfone has been shown to have high antibacterial activity against wild-type strains as well as bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics such as penicillin, erythromycin, and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). In addition, this compound has been found to be effective against kidney bean bacteria.
