13-Ethyl-3-methoxy-8,14-secogona-1,3,5(10),9(11)-tetraene-14,17-dione is a homologue of the natural product pyrazinoic acid. It is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to be an effective modulator of gene expression in wild type and mutant strains of Escherichia coli. 13-Ethyl-3-methoxy-8,14-secogona-1,3,5(10),9(11)-tetraene-14,17dione has also shown activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The structure of this compound is similar to the structure of protein synthesis enzymes such as ribosomal protein S12.
