Ethyl 2-(quinolin-2-yl)acetate is an oxidized, dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate that is mediated by functional groups such as chloride, nitro, and animals. It has been shown to have a toxic effect on the central nervous system. The compound is also a quinolizidine-based oxidant, which can be used as an oxidant in organic synthesis. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria at low concentrations and to cause DNA damage at high concentrations. Ethyl 2-(quinolin-2-yl)acetate has two tautomeric forms: dihydroquinolinium ion and ethoxyquinoline dication.
