Product Information
- 8-Quinolinecarboxylic Acid, Ethyl Ester
Ethyl 8-quinolinecarboxylate is a chiral molecule that is synthesized by the transfer hydrogenation of ethyl 8-hydroxyquinolinecarboxylate. This reaction yields the desired product in high yield, but it has been shown to be difficult to purify due to its racemic nature. The synthesis starts with the oxidation of naphthalene with nitric acid, followed by the addition of an alcohol and aminoguanidine hydrazide. The final step is the addition of bovine serum albumin and incubation at 37°C for 12 hours. Ethyl 8-quinolinecarboxylate has been shown to inhibit pathogenesis in vitro and in vivo through mechanisms that are not fully understood. It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to serum albumin and preventing substrate access to ribosomes, which leads to cell death.
