Etilefrine is an anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor agent that is used as a pharmacological treatment for diseases such as autoimmune diseases, bowel disease, and infectious diseases. Etilefrine has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in macrophages. It also has effects on the central nervous system, including vasovagal syncope, cardiac arrhythmia, and cardiac arrest. Etilefrine can be used to control blood pressure in patients with hypertension or congestive heart failure. This drug is not suitable for use in pregnant women because it is associated with fetal loss.
