Description:

Ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate is an ester of the fatty acid, ethyl ester. It can be synthesized by reacting ethyl chloride with a high-resistance calcium carbonate as the starting material. This reaction can be carried out in a wide range of solvents, but it is optimal in chlorinated hydrocarbons and fluorinated hydrocarbons. The optimum temperature for this reaction is between 50 and 60 degrees Celsius.
